2011 - 2012 Bat News

First, by rule, both BESR and BBCOR stamped bats are legal for the 2011 season. Beginning with
the 2012 season, only bats with the BBCOR stamp will be permitted. However, the CIF is going to adopt the BBCOR performance standards
for non-wood bats for 2011 if they are commercially available by January 1, 2011.
1) The NFHS website
has posted a bat that they are approving for the 2011 season. It is a Demarini 33 inch bat that has a model number listed.
I expect that we haven't seen the last of the bats they will approve for next season Stay tuned on that one.
2) The State CIF, in the information they have distributed, said that aluminum bats must have BBCOR to be legal in 2011,
if there are enough bats commercially available by January 1, 2011. Once they made that announcement, the Assemblyman who
was pushing the bill to ban all non-wood bats for 2011 withdrew that bill, so that is not an issue anymore. Rob Wigod
told me that a Rawlings rep told him there is no way that Rawlings will have enough BBCOR bats available for 2011, a
year in advance of the 2012 rule. So, I don't know what the State CIF is going to do or say when that situation presents
itself later this year and into next year.
* So if
you decide to by a new bat before Jan 2011 it must have both BESR & BBCOR stamps on it. I would suggest waiting to purchase
a new bat until after winter break
